"Shana Tova" for those that celebrate Rosh Hashanah! What an amazing start to our weekend. Our attorney contacted us yesterday and told us that the Appellate Court approved an expedited appeal--meaning that the appeal process will be cut from 10-12 months down to 3-4 months. Wow....! To quote our attorney, "I have seen very few of this kind of motion ever granted so the court is showing some interest in dealing with Liam's plight quickly."
That's exactly what this is--Liam's plight. Craig and I can handle the time and distance apart (begrudgingly and painfully) but the one hurt most by all of this is Liam. As much as I try to think how a mother could do this to her son, I cannot come up with anything good. I've stopped trying to guess what the mothers are thinking, only because nothing logical comes up.
So besides that, while this is not a sign of what the outcome will be, it is a sign that the Appellate Court understands this case is about a child and his best interests, and that time is of the essence. The longer the separation between Liam and me, the worse it is for him.
However, a shortened time means a lot of work by our attorneys. Our lead Appellate attorney, Patrica Dempsey, has her work cut out for her. She has 30 days to prepare her brief, to explain to the 3 Appellate Judges why they should overturn the lower court's ruling.
But we are happy knowing that our case is moving more rapidly than expected, and that perhaps, we really are moving in the right direction. These minor wins/steps bring more relief than I could ever have expected. It's one step closer to being reunited with our son.
Great news Ray, really promising! I am thrilled for you, Craig, and most of all, Liam. The court is finally thinking about what is best for your little man who has no voice in all of this. I realize it's just one step, but it is one of tremendous magnitude combined with hope...the quintessential driver to make the impossible possible. You are on your way!! And remember, the mom's know you are coming...
