Definitely will be over 2 years since I've last held and seen Liam. The hearing was supposed to start today but because of the Writ of Appeal decision for which we had been waiting at the Appellate Court, there was no use to move forward with the lower court hearing until we knew the outcome.
The Appellate Court judges ruled 2 to 1 against granting a guardium ad litem (this came out last Friday, 15 Oct 10). While this may seem like a set back for us, it should have no bearing on the lower court proceedings. My main concern is for Liam, and knowing if he is well or not. Again, I am happy with the new judge in the lower court and confident with our team that once we actually get to a hearing, we'll be back in Liam's life forever.
I've heard horror stories of divorces where fathers have had to fight for years and years just to get involved in their children's lives. We are going on 2 years now. Hopefully it won't take as long as some of the stories I've heard. Hard to believe we have a legal system that when it comes to minors where every day counts, it still takes so long to get through a process. I understand why (now) but still it is unbelievable. There has to be a better and more efficient way. The ones truly hurt in this legal process are the children--they miss out of a parent when they should never have to.
How can one parent say they truly love their child when they keep the other parent away from that child, especially when there is no reason to do so? Does that parent think the child will one day thank them for that or not come to their own conclusions as they mature?
